PDMPublisher for SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional

Let the vault do the publishing.

A task add-in for SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional. Configure it once in the Administration tool, attach it to a workflow, and every release comes out as a complete, consistently named package of PDFs, DXFs, STEPs and more, with datacard values on the page and no one at the keyboard.

✓  SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional 2018 SP0 or later

✓  Installs from the cloud with PDMDeploy, or from a .cex file

✓  Licensed per vault, with unlimited users and concurrent runs

Input

Your vault

Parts, assemblies and drawings, plus Word and Excel documents, selected by a transition, a right-click or a schedule.

↓

Task

PDMPublisher

Export rules, naming from variables, conditions, annotations, merging and logging, all defined in the Administration tool.

↓

Output

A release package

PDF, DXF, STEP and other formats in the right folders, merged with a table of contents, referenced back to the source, checked in.

A repeatable process. A consistent result.

How a run starts

Three ways to trigger it. Zero ways to forget it.

Once the task exists in the vault, it can be started by the workflow, by a user, or by the clock.

Workflow

On a transition

Attach the task to a workflow transition, such as Released, and the package is built the moment a file moves state. Nobody has to remember.

On demand

From the right-click menu

Select files in File Explorer and run the task from Tasks in the context menu. Optionally prompt the user to pick files, references, formats or a configuration at launch.

Scheduled

On a timer

Define Scheduled Items, including a CSV import of file lists, and let PDM run the task on its own schedule with no files selected.

What the task can do

Every setting a release package needs, on one setup page.

The task setup lives in the SOLIDWORKS PDM Administration tool: Options, Annotations, Conditions and Scheduled Items. Here is what the Options page controls.

Output

Export location and filename patterns built from datacard variables and placeholders. Map variables from source to output, create a PDM reference from the exported file back to its source, and remove duplicates outside the destination folder.

Export behaviour

Export the triggering file and its references individually, process every configuration or ask the user for one, zip the whole package, and export sheet-metal parts to 1:1 flat-pattern DXF or multi-body parts as split bodies.

PDF

Merge the exported PDFs into one master file, generate a table of contents with the columns you choose, and define bookmark text for the merged document.

Drawing sheets

Publish all sheets, or only the sheets whose names match a wildcard pattern.

PDM and SOLIDWORKS

Get the latest version before publishing, open drawings in quick view, use PDM search to find drawings that aren't beside the model, choose which installed SOLIDWORKS version runs the task, and hide the task from File Explorer.

BOM and activity logs

Pick the BOM template and calculation method for quantities, use the drawing's own BOM, and write vault activity logs, optionally synced to the server for support review.

Formats

One task. Every format your partners ask for.

Select any combination of formats per task. Parts, assemblies and drawings go out as CAD, drawing, PDF, web and image formats; Word and Excel documents in the vault convert to PDF alongside them.

PDF and MBD

PDF, 3D PDF

Drawings

DWG, DXF

eDrawings

EPRT, EASM, EDRW

CAD and interchange

STEP, IGES, STL, Parasolid (X_T, X_B), ACIS (SAT), 3D XML, 3MF, IFC, U3D, VRML, VDA, CGR, HCG, HSF

Web and images

HTML, XAML, JPG, TIF, BMP, AI, PSD

Office

Word and Excel to PDF

Precision

The right files, marked the right way, with a record of every run.

Annotations

Datacard values on the page

Place text, PDM variables, BOM quantities, SQL query results and watermarks anywhere on the exported PDF, with per-annotation position, font and sheet selection.

Quantity: {BOM Quantity}

Conditions

Only the references that matter

Rules on PDM variables, file names, folders and configurations decide which references join the run. Nested AND/OR groups handle the exceptions, and children of a failed sub-assembly can be skipped.

Material contains "Steel" AND Revision ≠ ""

Task Details

Know what was produced

The Task Details tab lists every file the run saved back into the vault, with its version, source file and folder. One click opens the full log for troubleshooting.

Pricing

US$1,499 per vault, per year, or own it for US$2,998. Everyone in the vault can use it.

The PDM Task is licensed per SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional vault, not per user, so there is no seat count to manage. Pay yearly, prepay two or three years for 10% or 15% off, or buy a perpetual licence that includes the first year of maintenance (US$599 a year after that). Running more than one vault? Set the number of vaults before you check out.

Secure checkout on bluebyte.biz, the official store of Blue Byte Systems Inc. The trial checkout total is US$0.00. The SOLIDWORKS add-in is a separate product with its own pricing.

Setup

From order email to first run.

Requires SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional 2018 SP0 or later and a SOLIDWORKS installation on the machine that runs the task. The latest PDM release is recommended.

1

Install the add-in

Use PDMDeploy to install straight from the cloud, or import the .cex file from your order email into the vault with the Administration tool. Unblock the download first.

2

Activate the licence

Right-click the add-in under Add-ins in the Administration tool, choose Manage license, and enter the key from the order email. The machine needs to reach bluebyte.biz on port 443.

3

Create the task

Add a PDMPublisher task and fill in the Options, Annotations, Conditions and Scheduled Items pages. Pick the SOLIDWORKS version that will run it.

4

Attach it and run

Add the task to a workflow transition, or run it from the right-click Tasks menu. Make sure the task host has local copies of the files, then check the Task Details tab for what was produced.
